Type U RDDs

Type 'U' RDDs are our most versatile and universal tail design for Pneu-Dart Projectors. Type U tails for 6cc – 10cc RDDs are our standard tail design for any projector. As an option, Type U tails have been created to support 0.5cc – 5cc RDDs as well. Many of our more seasoned customers may be familiar with these as ‘P’ Type RDDs with Flight Stabilizer Tails.

Specialty RDDs

Working closely with our customers, we have designed and built a variety of Specialty RDDs. Our specialty devices include:

DNA & Biopsy RDDs

Our DNA extraction device is designed to remove a sample consisting of both the dermis and hypodermis material. Integrated with the aluminum nose cone is a stainless steel cutter measuring approximately 0.165” × 0.150” which envelopes a barbed “capture claw” to ensure sample retention. Field trials yield three independent DNA tests from a single sample. Upon impact, the device retains a sample and falls to the ground. Equaling all Pneu-Dart RDDs, our DNA devices are available in the following three tail designs: Type ‘C’ for our Cartridge-Fired Projectors; Type ‘P’ for CO2 and Air Activated Projectors; and Type ‘U’ with flight stabilizers.

Ideal for gathering tissue samples for analysis, the Pneu-Dart Biopsy device, much like the DNA device, contains a ferrule “cutter” which protects a three-barbed capture claw. Upon retrieval of the device post-delivery, simply unscrew the ferrule and extract the tissue sample.

Marking Device / Marking Injection Device [MID]

Marking devices are designed to visibly mark the animal. Required marking media is now less than 1cc in volume. Note: We do not provide the marking media used in Marking Device.

MID’s are designed to inject the liquid while simultaneously placing a visible mark on the animal. Liquid delivery options for 1 cc – 3 cc are available. A variety of options are available. Call Pneu Dart Customer Care Providers for further details.

PLL Transmitter

Easily track your animal with our 414 PLL (Phase Lock Loop) Transmitter RDD – a microprocessor controled transmitter with solid state components. Our new UNI-body case design fortifies the transmitter to withstand kinetic energy impact values FIFTEEN times greater than anything else on the market.

  • Effective range up to ¾ of a mile depending upon topography.
  • Battery life provides up to 12 continuous hours of transmission using a silver oxide battery.
  • Frequency and temperature stable operation (operating temperature between -40 to 150ºF). Silver Oxide batteries only.
  • Practical performance features, including the unique ability to maintain high power output transmission quality even as the battery drains.
  • Once tightened, the battery cap activates the transmitter manually.
  • 28 milliseconds pulse rate, 50 pulses per minute.
  • Magnetic tap-on tap-off activation with pulsing LED light for easy detection.

Available Liquid Capacities

Remote Animal Deterrent

Uniquely designed, Remote Animal Deterrent device is ideal for “scaring” off unwanted animals. This 1.5 cc RDD, scored along the sides, milled and tapped with a screw, ruptures upon impact producing a notable report!*

*The device must be filled with Pyrodex® powder. (Pyrodex® powder not included.)

Practice

Use our Practice RDDs to sight in or fine tune your projector prior to use in the field. Available in all sizes (.5cc–10cc) and in Type P, Type C and Type U configurations.

RDD Features

Each of our RDDs are custom built per order and specifically designed to meet the demands of the customer. We have a variety of options to choose from when ordering your RDDs which include: Gelatin Collars, Wire Barbs, Flight Stabilizers, Cannula (Needle) lengths, and RDD sizes. Please take a look at what option(s) are best for you and your delivery needs.

Poly Carbonate/Aluminum Bodies

Poly Bodies (.5cc - 2cc): With the advent of our patented Slo-Inject® technology, Pneu-Dart has fortified its plastic RDD body by transitioning over to an opaque polycarbonate resin. Equipped with a Type C or Type P tail, the new PolyCarb RDD is ballistically equal and structurally superior. Aluminum device bodies (3cc – 10cc): Made out of aluminum tubing, our RDDs are designed to ensure optimum performance under any condition.

RDD Options

Green and Red Gelatin Collars: Designed to assist in easy identification we have elected to use two colors for our Gelatin Collars. The traditional Green color is now used on all end-port discharge cannulas. The Red Gelatin Collars are now assigned to our Tri-Port (end and side port) discharge cannulas. Although different in color our gelatin collars function equally as they have in the past. Wire Barb: Used to retain the RDD into the hide of the animal. Flight Stabilizers: Used to stabilize the RDD during flight.

Cannula (Needle) Lengths

RDDs are available with 14-gauge cannula in lengths of 3/8”, 1/2”, 3/4”, 1”, 1 1/4”, 1 1/2” and 2”. (13-gauge cannula also available) RDDs 1.5 cc through 10 cc are equipped with a gelatin collar. 0.5cc - 10cc can be ordered with a wire barb. 3/8” cannula are available in plain only. 1/2” cannula are available in gelatin collars or wire barbs. We do not recommend wire barbs or gelatin collars on 1/2 cc or 1 cc devices; however, they are available at an additional cost. Gelatin collars are comprised of an inert material retaining the RDD in place until the injection is complete. After several minutes it will liquefy, allowing the RDD to fall freely from the animal.

To Fill RDD Device

Recommendation: Wear latex gloves when filling remote delivery device (RDD) with medication.

  1. Load fill-syringe with your desired medication amount.
  2. Hold RDD upright at a 45-degree angle.
  3. Using a clean 19-gauge fill-syringe needle, insert into the RDD cannula (needle) and fill completely. The 19-gauge fill-needle must be 1/2" longer in length than the RDD cannula.
  4. To avoid any displaced medication, the RDD should remain upright until ready to fire.

Proper remote medication delivery must be delivered to the O-Zone™ injection site. Pneu-Dart recommends consistently delivering an appropriate sized practice device to a six-inch target before attempting to deliver any medication remotely. The species neutral O-Zone™ is on the side of the neck forward of the shoulder.

Remote Delivery Device education is highly recommended and offered by Pneu-Dart. Pneu-Dart supports proper and judicious use of our products including but not limited to the following:

  • Establish a VCPR (Veterinarian Client Patient Relationship) prior to delivering any medication to any animal.
  • Always verify drug volume and cannula (needle) length before administering any medication to any animal.
  • Do not shake or drop RDDs (darts) as they could activate prematurely.
  • Practice with remote delivery devices (RDD) equal in size and weight prior to delivering any medication to any animal.
  • Store in original packaging in a cool, dry place and away from children.
  • Wear gloves when handling medication and always hold equipment away from face.
  • Never top off or mix medications unless directed by your veterinarian.
  • Do not prefill RDDs more than 90 minutes prior to delivery.
  • The use of projector's with mechanically adjustable power control settings to influence the muzzle velocity and impact speeds is essential when delivering medication remotely.
  • Do not refrigerate.
  • Upon recovery of a delivered RDD; should you wish to check for full deployment, insert a 19-gauge hypodermic needle into the cannula of the RDD. When deployed properly the hypodermic needle will face resistance just inside the drug containment chamber.
  • Use caution and dispose of each spent RDD in accordance with local, regional, national, territorial, provincial and international regulation.
  • Eye protection should be used at all times.

User acknowledges and accepts any and all liability when using this product. Extreme caution should be present at all times.
