When working in the field or on the ranch, it’s easy to overlook the maintenance of our most valuable tools. But just like any piece of equipment, your Pneu-Dart projector requires routine care to keep it functioning safely and reliably.
Over time, your projector can experience wear and buildup, especially when used in dusty, damp or weather-challenged environments. Regular cleaning ensures consistent performance and reduces the likelihood of mechanical issues requiring repair.
Clean After Every Use
Every time you use your projector; it should be cleaned properly. At a minimum, we recommend running a cleaning rod with a swab through the barrel to remove any debris, residue, or moisture. Neglecting to clean your projector can lead to buildup that affects accuracy, pressure, and safety.
What’s in the Pneu-Dart Cleaning Kit?
Every comprehensive starter package we offer, whether it be the cattle package, deer and elk package or the animal control package includes a Pneu-Dart cleaning kit. It can also be purchased separately. Alternatively, any high-quality .50 caliber cleaning kit should be sufficient for the job.
The Pneu-Dart cleaning kit includes:
- Rod: Used to push cleaning attachments through the barrel.
- Wire brush: Helps dislodge dried-on residue or stubborn debris.
- Cotton swab: Ideal for drying moisture or applying a solvent for a polished finish.
A simple gun solvent works well in all of our projectors. Just be sure to follow it up with a dry swab or cleaning patch to remove excess liquid and avoid corrosion.
Tips for Best Cleaning Results
- Clean the barrel after use-this can help loosen residue.
- Avoid over-oiling or over-applying solvent; a light coating is enough.
- Store your projector in a clean, dry case after cleaning.
- Inspect your projector for any signs of wear or damage during each cleaning.
Make It Routine
Caring for your projector doesn’t need to be time-consuming. A quick cleaning routine after each use not only protects your investment but also ensures you’re ready for the next time an animal needs care. Whether you’re in the field or on the farm, taking five minutes to clean your projector helps guarantee precision and performance every time.
